Biting in Self-Defense

We teach our children from a young age not to bite other kids. The fact that we do that means that kids instinctively bite when they are threatened. It is a built in defense mechanism. So lets capitalize on that for our own self protection.
Think about it, if you are scared of some animal, whether it is a mouse or a lion, why are you scared of it? Because it bites or at least it has the ability to bite.
In a self defense situation, biting can mean the difference between surviving or not. In a self-defense situation you obviously do not want to halfhearted bite. That would just make your attacker more aggressive.
Rather, you want to bite to cause maximum reaction and injury. You want to bite and tear. Most people flinch or pull away a body part if it is bitten. If you bite an attacker and he/she reacts that way, it may offer you the opportunity to transition into a better position to protect yourself. It may mean the difference between getting a weapon out or not. It could open up another area which you can attack .
