To Fight or Not Fight? That Is The Question.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝘂𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:

It is all about the motive of the attacker. The motive may be that he wants your stuff, or that he wants to injure you to boost his ego or that he is a psycho criminal who wants to keep you locked up in his basement for 20 years. The attacker’s motive determines your action(s).
Running (avoidance): This is always the safest option for all the motives. Fighting offers you at best a 50% chance of success. In a sports fight there is only 1 winner. In a criminal attack, there is also only 1 winner. If the attacker has a weapon, is a skilled fighter, catches you off guard, or you were just too ignorant to learn how to fight, your chances of being the winner decrease. Also, even if you win a physical fight, there will always be consequences for example, mental trauma, legal actions, criminal actions, medical expenses etc etc.
Compliance & Talking Your Way Out Of It: This is the safest option if the attacker wants your stuff (hijacking, armed robbery), or if the attacker is motivated by ego (hey why are you looking at my girl situations). As mentioned above, fighting has risks. It is not worth ending up in hospital or the mortuary for your car, phone, money or hurt feelings. Can it still happen that an attacker continues an attack even though you complied? Unfortunately the answer is yes, so be ready.
Fighting: When the motive is to shoot you, stab you, rape you, mutilate you or kidnap you (or your loved ones), you fight until the threat is stopped. No rules. No mercy.
In Summary:
Attackers Motive = Your Property or his/her Ego
Your Action= Comply or talk you way out ( but be ready to fight if it does not work)
Attackers Motive= Your Life (or someone you love)
Your Action= Fight until the threat is stopped and you can escape.
Side Note
Sometimes you may need to employ all three strategies, i.e. first try to avoid, if that does not work, pretend you are complying and then attack with the intent to stop the threat and then run. At other times you may just opt to fight and then run, like when you are ambushed and brutally attacked. Also, if it is your EGO that tells you to fight, your ego is WRONG! Ego is a poor substitute for intelligence.
